Plant N Glossary
Narcotics
- drugs which in moderate doses relieve pain, but in excess doses or with continued use are dangerous. Because any narcotic drug must be administered with the greatest of care, no plant narcotics are discussed in this work. In cases where plants of an otherwise useful nature are narcotic or poisonous in some part or stage of growth, suitable cautions are given.
Nerviness
- tonics for the nerves. Most notable of plants classified as nervines, and one listed in the National Formulary, is valerian, which pharmacological textbooks refer to as a “calmative in nervousness.”
Papaya - a world class meat tenderizer, natural digestive aid, prevents ulcers, and also a soft contact lense cleaner.
